WHY GO CUT GRASS?

It all started on a red-eye flight from the west coast back to the midwest. I realized that all we did as a company was cut grass, but it wasn’t what we did but how we did it that made all the difference.

You don’t need to be a neurosurgeon or a rocket scientist to make a difference in this world.

Sometimes the simplest of things can make a huge difference.

You can be the best part of someone’s day every day.

As the man took the aisle seat next to me on that first class flight I was trapped. He was dressed in his Armani suit carrying his Louis Vuitton briefcase. This man was assertive toward the flight attendant, and he made certain everyone in first class knew he was important. After a scene of having the staff hang his jacket and securing his carryon items he let out a sigh. He looked at me and uttered, “What a day”. If only that was all he had said. This man went on for 20 minutes telling me how important his meetings were with the city, the mayor, and the corporate executives negotiating a new NFL stadium deal. As we’re taxiing down the runway he asked me, "So, what do you do?” I responded with, “I cut grass.” He responded with something like, seriously, what do you do? “I cut grass, really.” He never spoke another word to me the remainder of the 5 hour flight.

This story is a reminder that you can be the waste disposal truck driver or the guy that cuts grass. It matters not so long as you serve with love. If you choose to serve and love others you will have a profound impact on your family and your community. This is where happiness is found.

I BELIEVE IN HELPING…

people discover who they were created to be, so that they experience happiness because they built a life filled with purpose and meaning.

I lived a charmed life for the most part. I used my gifts and talents to achieve whatever it was I wanted at the time. There were some peaks and valleys, but ultimately I had massive worldly success on three occasions. Each time shortly after making the summit of what I was trying to accomplish I had the same feeling. The feeling was aimless, lost, and confused. I had never answered the question. Who am I? As I lay in a hospital bed recovering from a medical coma I quickly realized that everything I’d done in the past to leverage my gifts and talents to persuade, work, or creatively solve a problem wasn’t going to work this time. You see I had spent my life trying to be who I thought others wanted me to be or who I wanted other people to think I was. Every time I had found success, but remained aimless, lost, and confused. I had no choice but to face the question and truthfully find out who I am. Have you ever found yourself successful beyond all measure yet aimless, lost, and confused? Have you ever heard someone compliment you on how amazing you are or how they think your life is incredible? After hearing these words from someone have you ever wondered why you aren’t happier or more fulfilled?

I realized that I always had a plan to accomplish a goal and achieve the result. I never had a plan to live a life filled with purpose and meaning that led to sustainable happiness. I never had a plan to impact my family and my community in ways that would lead to sustained happiness, purpose, and meaning.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING ON?

Let’s create awe inspiring lives with purpose and meaning

We ultimately have chosen the life we are currently living. Our current situation is a product of the past choices we have made. If you want to know what your future looks like, then you must simply look at your current behaviors.

If you’re living the life you've always wanted then please accept my congratulations. If you’d like more from life, or if you believe there must be more to life, then let’s walk down a path of discovery.

SEE THE GOOD…

We choose to see what we want to see. Unlimited power is available to us when we choose to see the good all around us. We must see the good in all things, all situations, and all people.

I used to leave notes all around for my oldest daughter. All the note would say was “SEE THE GOOD…” I would write it on her bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. I would put it on a Post-It in her lunchbox. I would leave a note in her golf bag. I would write it on a piece of paper and leave it on her windshield. I was constantly reminding her of the power within herself to choose, to choose to see the good all around.

She kept many of these notes over the years. In 2020 she took one of my notes to a tattoo artist, and she had “See the good…” tattooed on her ribcage. Now, while I don’t condone getting it tattooed on your body I do hope to encourage everyone in my pathway to see the good.

What do you see?
